How education allowances are usually designed
Every company does it differently. These are the decisions to make; which model fits depends on your HR and tax rules.
- Full coverage
- The company pays the full tuition invoiced. Often combined with an approved school list or curriculum.
- Annual cap
- A yearly cap per child. Set it from the fee distribution in the posting city.
- Children and ages
- How many children are covered, and from/to which age (including early years or not).
- Difference to local public school
- Where local public schools are an option, some companies cover only the difference.
- Which extra costs
- Application fee, capital levy or debenture, deposit, EAL support, school bus, uniforms: decide what is included.
- Tax treatment and after return
- Tax treatment of the allowance and support after returning to Korea: confirm with your tax team or adviser first.
