Schooling
Education: for Japanese nationals, international schools do not meet compulsory schooling
Japan's education ministry says enrolling a Japanese-national child in an international school that is not an 'Article 1' school does not fulfil the parents' compulsory schooling duty, and finishing such a school's primary section generally does not qualify a child for a Japanese public junior high. The page has no separate rule for foreign-national children. As of 2026-10-30 our directory lists 11 schools in this city (still growing).
- Non-Article-1 schools do not meet the duty (Japanese nationals)
